dear gage ~ love momma

Now that you are little over one, and by a little, I mean like a month, we think you
are pretty experienced at it already! Currently you…

You prefer to drink out of a cup and not a sippy.
You can drink out of that cup on your own.
When you drink out of that cup you think its funny to spit everything out.
You and have learned how to move clothes from the washer to the dryer.
You dangle on the oven door, until it comes down on top of you.
Your favorite game is hiding momma’s keys.
Your favorite hiding spot is you toy basket where my keys blend in.
When we ask you where your ball is you search for the orange one, and most
definitely do not want the red one.

You think your basketball hoop is meant for everything, including trucks, sippy cups,
and cell phones.
You try to climb the walls of the bathtub, and can just barely get your leg high
enough to climb out.
You LOVE Peter Rabbit, and HATE Dr. Suess.
You respond, “okay” to every question.
You do summersaults on the couch, repeatedly.
You inevitably fall off the couch, but kisses make it all better.
You don’t stop attempting summersaults until you are banged up pretty bad.
You hate socks.
You love bare feet on grass.
You think my flowers are edible.
You think bathtubs are for standing, not sitting.

You can hold yourself up on a pull up bar.
No, you cannot do pull-ups, but you think its funny when momma tries.
You are still too young to take to a movie, at least that’s what the guy in front of you
thought after you pulled his hair.
You can feed yourself yogurt with a spoon.
Only half of the yogurt ends up on yourself, mostly because you turn the spoon
upside down before it reaches your mouth.
You love to hold the cell phone to your ear. And if we try talking to you, you put that
cell phone to our ear.
You sleep like a champ, we think it’s because you talk to Curious George when you
are alone. He is great company.

So much growing up, in such a small amount of time. When you were first born people told me that you were “all boy.” I didn’t know what it meant until recently. And I soon forgot it when I caught you crying because you had tangled yourself in my bra. You give us so many reasons to smile. We are so happy you are a part of this family.

love, momma

Steffie is really far away, in a place that is really cold. She tells me how much she misses you

She missed your birthday because she was walking lots, just like you! But don't you worry, she remembered to write.

Dear Gage,

I'm sorry I'm a little late, but I promise I didn't forget! Happy 1st Birthday! I hear you're walking and are a ball of energy-I didn't expect anything else from you. I also loved getting to hear your screaming roar over the phone last week, you are such a stud. I do expect by the next phone call however, to get a little more than a roar from you! maybe like "hey aunt Steffie, you're the coolest"...or something along those lines, that would be great. Thanks :) Your mom also sent me some pictures to give me a little update and you look nothing like what I remember. I remember you as just a little guy, not able to walk and not moving around too much, and after only been 5 and a half months you've grown and changed so much! what is going on? You are growing too fast. Although, I am excited to get to play again when I get back, to be able to run around and whatnot. It'll be good! Keep loving and keeping learning little one. I love you so much!

Dear Gage,

Attached is a photo of a waterfall. This waterfall is in a Creek that I refer to as Gage's Creek. I love going there. It reminds me so much of my son Gage.

Gage was much much smaller than you when I found out that he was having issues with his little body.

Gage was a fighter, just like you are. On September 15th 2009 Gage Aiden went to sleep and never woke up.

He was born that day asleep. I appreciate life so much more since losing Gage and I'm sure your parents love every second they have with you.

You are such a fighter, your heart is going strong.

You went through so much, so tiny and I hope that your body keeps fighting.

Love and Well Wishes,
Cristine.

a birthday marathon

You are one lucky little man. You were born into a family that really knows how to do birthdays. And they made yours EXTRA special.

You spent all morning playing ball.

dad occasionally had to come to your rescue if you got lost.

you fell in love with running water all afternoon

and when we could couldn't get you out, dad worked his magic eventually distracted you enough.

don't worry, your favorite people were there, your cousins.

you even had a bbq for dinner, and you ate more strawberries than anyone one else at the party, including the adults.

mom and dad got you a basket ball hoop

you seemed pretty excited about it

you politely offered to share you birthday cupcake, only after you had mushed it around.

by the end of the marathon, you were pooped.

I told you they do birthdays good! It was an event to remember, mostly because I fell asleep wiping tears from my eyes. You seemed bigger today more than ever. You played all day, and refused to go inside. You would even sit by the door just waiting for someone to open it so you could walk outside. You explored, you climbed, you fell, and even made lil boy noises with your toys. You insisted on following your cousins, and being a part of the group. You are my big boy, that I still occasionally get to snuggle with...until you are ready jump off the couch, slide down the stairs, and make big boy messes that is!

Here's to being one! Momma and daddy love you, and wouldn't have wanted this year to go any differently. You make life exhilarating, and often exhausting, and we love it.

Love, momma

Happy Birthday Cousin. I hope your first was as fun as mine. Wish I could help you celebrate.

Love, James

dear gage

(Papa and the boys, a little less than a year ago. That's you on the right. And the one on the left? well that's cousin James. he is probably wondering what you are staring at. But that's normal, we are ALL wondering what you re staring at)

It is hard to believe that you are one whole year old. Happy birthday to you sweet boy. I look at your smiling face and you remind me of your mother. I look at your fuzz cut and you remind me of your dad. I look at that perfect scar on your chest and you remind me of my new knee. I hope you get to do fun stuff on your birthday. I am so glad to have a grandson like you. You are awesome.

I love you... Grand-papa Dick
